A Little Background Info on Hawaiian Airlines:

Hawaiian Airlines isn’t the biggest business in the skies – they are the 8th largest commercial carrier in the U.S. – but they are certainly filling their planes with some of the happiest passengers. Unlike many domestic carriers who are regularly filling flights with people going to and from business appointments, most of the people on a Hawaiian flight are on their way to or coming back from vacation. While the planes that are headed toward the islands are likely happier than those coming back east, you can expect to have a good time on a Hawaiian Air flight.

For those reasons, it probably isn’t a surprise that Hawaiian Air has been named the best carrier serving Hawaii by a variety of publications. The airline has an excellent on-time and cancellation history, and it is the oldest airline in the U.S. that has never experienced a fatal accident. There are a total of 54 planes in the Hawaiian fleet, and the airline serves a total of 27 destinations. In addition to Hawaii and the mainland of the U.S., Hawaiian Air also serves destinations in Asia as well as Australia and New Zealand.

Hawaiian Airlines on the Web:

Hawaiian Airlines on Facebook – One of the best reasons to follow business accounts on social media is to save money, and you may be able to do just that when you ‘Like’ the Facebook page of Hawaiian Airlines. The timeline that you will find on their page is full of money saving offers, which may or may not apply to your upcoming trip. Obviously, it is quick and easy to follow their page and watch for good deals to come across your screen, so there is very little reason not to add them to your Facebook feed. In addition to great deals on flights, they also post information about hotel offers, restaurants, and much more.

Twitter – Hawaiian Air does a great job on Facebook, and they are on top of their business on Twitter as well. Just as on the Facebook page, their Twitter feed includes opportunities for you to save money, along with educational posts related to visiting Hawaii. Since taking a trip to Hawaii is the vacation of a lifetime for some people, having the opportunity to pick up some travel tips from locals before you go is a great way to enhance your experience.

In addition to their general account, Hawaiian Air also has an account that can be found @HawaiianFares. As you might expect, the purpose of this Twitter profile is simply to inform potential travelers of great rates that are available on upcoming flights. If they happen to tweet out a promotional offer for a flight that is originating in your home city, you could stand to save significantly on your trip.

Hawaiian Airlines on YouTube:

Hawaiian Airlines also allows its customers to interact with the business through YouTube. There are new videos posted to the Hawaiian Air YouTube account on a regular basis, including the Pau Hana Fridays series, which features plenty of local Hawaiian culture to get you in the mood for your upcoming vacation. Other recent videos include content from Honolulu Fashion Week, information about in-flight safety, and more.

Top Attractions in Hawaii

Hawaii is an astoundingly beautiful place, and no matter which of their islands you decide to visit (you can easily get to all of them using Hawaiian Airlines!) you are certain to have a memorable vacation. There are many, many different things to see and do and each island has it’s own unique character. Here are some of our favourite selections from each island:

Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve – Oahu
Located a little ways away from Honolulu, you will need to travel by car to visit this attraction best known for it’s gorgeous beach and excellent snorkelling over a coral reef. A lot of great snorkel spots are only accessible by boat, so it’s really nice to have this spot easily accessible directly from the parking lot. As this is a nature preserve, there is a charge to enter the park (as of the writing of this article it is $7.50 per person). This money goes towards preserving and maintaining the reef, life guards, as well as maintaining the facilities at the beach. This is probably the best place to snorkel on Oahu, and the life guards are there to help your family stay safe. Before going snorkelling all visitors are required to watch a short educational video so that they do not damage the reef (you must take care not to touch the coral as oils from skin are deadly to them) and are respectful to it’s inhabitants. If you see a green sea turtle (they are called Honu in Hawaiian language) that is very exciting and you are lucky, but take care not to touch them as it is prohibited by law. There is a gift shop and snack stand where you can purchase food, or bring a picnic lunch!

Volcanoes National Park – Big Island (Hawaii)

Have you ever seen a live volcano? Volcanoes national park is one of the few places on earth where you can safely observe an active volcano. Kilauea is located on the island of Hawaii, more commonly know as the Big Island, and has been actively spewing lava for over 100 years! The park is huge and has lots to see, so you may want to dedicate a whole day to driving around it. Yes, you will definitely need a vehicle to get to the park and then get around it. If you are staying in Kona or Hilo there are tour operators offer day trips that leave very early and get back very late. It is a long drive from the Kona side of the island, but well worth it! You definitely want to stay past sunset so that you can observe the orange glow of the lava in the crater from the Jaeger Museum. Very cool!

Waimea Canyon – Kauai

Located on the ‘Garden Island’ of Kauai, the Waimea Canyon was once described by Mark Twain as the Grand Canyon of the Pacific. It’s 3600 feet to the bottom, and 10 miles from end to end. There are many different hiking trails in and around the canyon, if you can it’s best to go on a guided hike with an experienced local who knows the area well. Bring sturdy hiking shoes, you do not want to attempt this one in flip flops! You’re also going to want to make sure you’ve got sunscreen, water, snacks, a hat, and if you’ve got walking poles they definitely wouldn’t hurt! If you show up and it looks like the canyon is shrouded in mist don’t despair! Because the canyon is so deep low hanging clouds can settle in the canyon, particularly early in the day. But don’t worry, give it an hour or so and the sun will take care of them and you’ll be gifted with a truly breathtaking view.
